The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has released an important notification regarding the payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees who are still receiving their pay based on the 6th Pay Commission’s scale. A significant enhancement in the DA rate has been declared, effective from July 1, 2023.
Reference has been made to the General Administration Department’s communication, with reference number GAD-CORD/113/2021-09-GAD dated June 20, 2024, which sets forth the continuation of the government’s order.
Key Highlights of the DA Revision:
- Previous DA Rate: The existing rate of DA was 221% of the basic pay.
- New DA Rate: This has been revised to 230% of the basic pay.
- Effective Date: The change comes into effect from July 1, 2023.
- Payment of Arrears: Arrears from July 2023 to May 2024 due to the DA increase will be paid in cash in June 2024. Subsequently, the adjusted DA will be included in the monthly salary from June 2024 onwards.
- Rounding Off: Any fraction of DA involving 50 paisa and above will be rounded up to the next higher rupee, while anything less than 50 paisa will be disregarded.
This update bears the signature of Santosh D. Vaidya, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Finance Department. The order mandates the enhanced DA to be paid starting mid-2024 while providing clear instructions on the treatment of fractional amounts.
By the order of the Lieutenant Governor, the notification has been disseminated to relevant officials, including Advocate General of J&K and Ladakh, all Financial Commissioners (Additional Chief Secretaries), Director General of Police, J&K, and Principal Accountant General (A&E), J&K, ensuring comprehensive communication across various departments.
The government order is enclosed as release number FD-Code/269/2021-02, dated June 26, 2024, signifying a proactive approach to support the financial stability of employees within government sectors amidst economical adjustments.
