Jammu & Kashmir Government Revives Vacant Posts in Prisons Department

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has released an order, Government Order No.: 244 – Home of 2024, that will significantly impact the recruitment process in the region’s Prisons Department. The order, dated 30th May 2024, addresses several vital points concerning vacant non-gazetted positions, including Warders and Warder Drivers.

Background of the Order

The process of filling vacancies started when the Director-General (DG) of Prisons, J&K, was asked to list all vacant non-gazetted posts available for direct recruitment. Subsequently, the DG Prisons provided an indent of all vacant non-gazetted posts, signaling a move to initiate recruitment through the J&K Service Selection Board (SSB).

Issue of Abolished Posts

On review, it was found that 257 Warder positions and six Warder Driver positions had been deemed abolished because they had been vacant for over two years. This was in line with the Finance Department’s circular instructions. In response, the DG Prisons was then asked to justify the need to revive these posts, which he did, outlining the financial implications involved.

Finance Department’s Concurrence

After careful deliberation and consultation with the Finance Department, it was agreed to revive 210 posts of Warders and all six posts of Warder Drivers. The revived posts are proposed to be referred to the J&K SSB for the recruitment process.

Sanction and Revival of Posts

The Competent Authority has given its sanction to reinstate these positions. As a result, 210 posts for Warders and six for Warder Drivers will be revived in the Pay Level L2 (19900-63200). This move is a positive one for the Prisons Department, offering job opportunities for many aspiring candidates.

Implementation of the Order

The order was signed and authorized by the IAS Principal Secretary to the Government, Chandraker Bharti. With this sanction, the Prisons Department is now poised to reinvigorate its workforce with fresh recruitments, thus augmenting the efficiency and effectiveness of prison management within the state.

This sanction gives green light to replenish a significant number of vacant positions in the J&K Prisons Department, marking a substantial development in the enhancement of the region’s correctional facilities.

Conclusion

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir demonstrates its commitment to reinforcing the Prisons Department by reviving critical non-gazetted posts. This initiative is expected to provide employment opportunities as well as improve the management of prisons in the region.

For more details and updates on this development, individuals are encouraged to keep an eye on official announcements and the J&K Service Selection Board’s upcoming recruitment notifications.
