As the annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra approaches, slated to commence on June 29, 2024, for a duration of 52 days, meticulous preparations are underway to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage by deploying additional police personnel and establishing a robust administrative framework.
Key Appointments for Yatra Administration
The Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters has issued Order No. 152 of 2024, dated June 16, 2024, delineating the assignments of various officers for the Yatra:
- Shri Kulbir Singh, CO IRP-11th Bn, is appointed as Police Yatra Officer (PYO) at Pahalgam.
- Shri Suram Singh, CO JKAP-8th Bn, will serve as Police Yatra Officer (PYO) at Baltal.
- A team of Assistant Police Yatra Officers (APYOs) shall assist the PYOs, with designated headquarters enumerated as follows:
- Shri Surjeet Kumar Bhagat, Dy. CO IR-15th Bn, at Pahalgam.
- Shri Ramnish Kumar, Dy. CO IR-4th Bn, and Shri Parbeet Singh, Dy. CO IR-12th Bn, at Sheshnag Base Camp.
- Shri Prithpal Singh, Dy. CO IR-7th Bn, to oversee Panjtarni.
- Shri Masroor Ahmad Mir, Dy. CO IR-10th Bn, as I/C JPCR Pahalgam.
- Shri Mashkoor Ahmed Zargar, Dy. CO IR-8th Bn, as I/C JPCR Baltal.
- Shri Sachin Gupta, Dy. CO Border Bn, at Manigam.

Security Force Deployment
Notably, the order highlights the deployment of substantial police force for the Yatra:
- 50 Senior Superintendents of Police (SsP) / Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SsP) under Annexure “A” to IGP Kashmir Zone.
- 31 SsP / Dy.SsP under Annexure “B” to ADGP Jammu Zone.
- 36 Companies (Coys), including 2 Lady Coys, to Kashmir Zone; 18 Coys, including 2 Lady Coys to Jammu Zone.
