The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken a significant step towards regulating and monitoring cyber space activities within the union territory. An official order has been issued by the Public Works (R&B) Department, under the Civil Secretariat of Jammu/Srinagar, which references communication received on 29th February 2024 from the Information Technology Department.
Government Order Details
According to the government order No. 75-PW(R&B) of 2024, dated 8th May 2024, the administration has sanctioned the appointment of Ms. Tanveer Mir, who is presently the Chief Engineer of PMGSY Kashmir and is also holding the charge of Engineer-in-Chief, J&K. Ms. Mir has been designated as the Nodal Officer for the Public Works (R&B) Department. Her role includes handling any unlawful content, information, or activities that take place in cyber space, as mandated by the existing Act/Law.
This order is in continuation to the previous Government Order No. 25-PW(R&B) of 2024 dated 24th January 2024.
Responsibilities of the Nodal Officer
The responsibility of the Nodal Officer will be to ensure that the cyber space is free from any activities that are deemed unlawful under the prevailing laws. Ms. Mir’s appointment serves as a point of contact for any issues or actions required to safeguard the cyber domain within the department’s jurisdiction.
